Karate Kid: Legends Review
'Karate Kid: Legends' Delivers a Crane Kick to the Legacy of the Franchise. While Ben Wang and Sadie Stanley give strong performances, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio are wasted in this misguided and unnecessary legacy sequel. Opening in theaters on May 30th is ‘Karate Kid: Legends’, which combines characters from both the original ‘Karate Kid’ movie as well as the 2010 remake and was directed by Jonathan Entwistle (‘Hello Tomorrow!’).
Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio reprise their franchise roles as Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso, respectively, and are joined by Ben Wang (‘American Born Chinese’), Sadie Stanley (‘Somewhere in Queens’), Joshua Jackson (‘Fringe’), and Ming-Na Wen (‘The Mandalorian’).

The first three films follow Daniel LaRusso, who learns to use karate for good under the eccentric mentorship of a janitor named Mr. Miyagi. In the fourth and final installment of the original series, Mr. Miyagi becomes the guardian of his late friend's granddaughter in an effort to steer her away from trouble. A new era introduces new rivals and new characters. In the fifth film, Mr. Han, a kung fu master, passes his wisdom to his new student, Dre. In Karate Kid: Legends, the two continuities merge when the main character, Li, is trained by both Mr. Han and the original Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso.
